The BBoard is a cost effective engaging hands on teaching aid to support computing programmes of study, key stages 2, 3 & 4 of the National Curriculum in England.

The board has 3 LEDs, buzzer, 2 push button switches and a light sensor which provide the ingredients for a very large number of interesting lessons and projects. It can be used in conjunction with Arduino and Raspberry Pi processors. A review of the Bboard and examples for use can be seen here and here.

Product Description

This makes the BBoard an ideal solution for key stage 2 elements such as:

• Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts
• Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output

and key stage 3 elements:

• Design, use and evaluate computational abstractions that model the state and behaviour of real-world problems and physical systems
• Understand the hardware and software components that make up computer systems, and how they communicate with one another and with other systems
• undertake creative projects that involve selecting, using, and combining multiple applications, preferably across a range of devices, to achieve challenging goals, including collecting and analysing data and meeting the needs of known users
• create, reuse, revise and repurpose digital artefacts for a given audience, with attention to trustworthiness, design and usability

and key stage 4 elements:

• Develop the capability, creativity and knowledge in Computer studies, digital media and information technology • Develop and apply their analytic, problem-solving, design, and computational thinking skills

The BBoard can also be part of a wider curriculum due to the quality of the components. The light sensor has a spectral response close to that of human eye with an output that is linear across wide illumination range which enables it to be used in Science experiments. The twin input buttons enable the BBoard to be used as a game controller ideal for engaging more challenging students. The BBoard can be embedded into the Technology curriculum, in particular used to teach the electronics part of Product Design.
