April 10: Wind Sensors for Skandia Team GBR

Skandia Team GBR on the water wind systems

Press Release:

Richard Paul Russell Ltd is proud to announce that they have developed and supplied the Skandia Team GBR with 20 state of the art wind measuring systems for use on their coach boats in the build up to the 2012 Olympics.

Using ultrasonic wind sensors and the latest in GPS technology, accurate real-time wind plots can be viewed at any time. The coaches and sailors are now able to analyse wind speed, wind shifts and bends on the water. All data is recorded so further in-depth analysis can be undertaken once ashore.

Accurate wind measurement in training and during events gives the team a real advantage in obtaining the highest performance from their boats, something that will be required to win medals at the Olympic Games.

With over eighteen years of specialist instrument design experience Richard Paul Russell Ltd is dedicated to the design, marketing and distribution of high quality electronics. This includes a range of weather instruments, a solution for economical data logging, with the option of NMEA logging and the AutoHoot. The AutoHoot is an essential tool for any race officer wanting to start sailing races reliably.

March 10: SpaceLogger helps provides solution to wheelie bin weighing

VWS Ltd Enviroweigh Wheeled Bin Weighing

RPR Ltd's SpaceLogger has found a new application, recording the weights of wheeled bins for Vehicle Weighing Solutions' onboard Enviroweigh load cell system.

Where individual bin weights are needed by refuse and recycling trucks, Enviroweigh weighs the contents of two and four wheeled bins. Ideal for recycling schemes and pinpointing excessive users. Bin RFID is linked to dynamic weighing to maintain cycle times.

Built in to the truck's dash, the SpaceLogger records all bin weight data to a removable memory card. The data for the round can then be easily downloaded to a PC for analysis back at the office.

SpaceLogger data loggers capture data from any device or sensor with a serial port or RS232 interface. A compact, economical solution to high capacity data recording for numerous applications, including time-stamping, paperless record keeping and remote sensor monitoring. Customised models are available. This is a simple way to add dedicated data logging function to equipment and sensors outputting RS232.

Both Richard Paul Russell Ltd and Vehicle Weighing Solutions design and manufacture their products in the UK. Vehicle Weighing Solutions provides the complete range of onboard weighing and axle overload protection electronics for commercial vehicles, backed up by its nationwide on-site service and repair team. RPR Ltd has been designing, manufacturing and marketing electronics, including weather instrumentation and data loggers, for a diverse range of markets since 1992. Their products are exported world-wide.

Feb 10: Bluetooth Kestrels now in stock

Kestrel pocket weather meters with wireless Bluetooth

The entire Kestrel 4000 series is now available with Bluetooth, including the night vision models. Now, both real-time and logged data can be transferred wirelessly and automatically to a laptop or PDA.

This enables long-term storage of data, further analysis and detailed charting. In many instances, key environmental measurements from a Kestrel instrument are input into other systems - ballistics calculators, fire behaviour models, hazmat plume predictors, heat stress models, weather reports, research data sets and more.

Bluetooth Advantages:

  • Streamline your work and reduce your equipment in the field - wireless data transmission eliminates the need for a separate interface and cabling.
  • Every Bluetooth Kestrel will include custom communication software designed to quickly and easily configure your data transmission frequency, download logged data, graph data, and transfer data to other applications.
  • Data transmission range adjustment allows you to maximise power to communicate with your Kestrel at up to a 30 feet range, or reduce power for closer, more secure operation.
  • Individual unit ID's ensure you pair with the Kestrel you want, even when more than one system is operating in the same area.
  • Permanently coded unique 4-digit Pin numbers provide extra security when pairing and transmitting data.

We have a limited stock of Bluetooth units this month but more are due in soon. Please contact us now to secure your order.

May 08: The New Kestrel® 4250 Racing Weather Tracker is now available

Kestrel 4250 Racing Weather Tracker

Designed to provide critical measurements to those on the race track, the new Kestrel 4250 is now in stock.

Accurate and up-to-date readings of air density, moisture content (humidity ratio) and density altitude can now be easily measured and tracked. Small changes in these conditions can dramatically change an engine's performance.

Other important measurements, including wind speed, station pressure, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are also readily monitored.

The Kestrel 4250 enables racers and pit crews to instantly assess the environmental conditions on the track and to tune their machines accordingly.

Just like the rest of the Kestrel range, the Racing Weather Tracker is rugged, portable and easy to use. It also features manual or automatic storage of data, allowing logging of conditions throughout the race and for comparison from track to track. With the optional Kestrel PC Interface, data may downloaded on to a computer allowing in-depth analysis of the race day's conditions.

April 08: Live Wind Data from Highcliffe

Highcliffe Sailing Club have just installed a new R-P-R Wind System. The system streams live wind data to the internet every 10 minutes. The data can be viewed at our website www.weather-file.com/highcliffe.

This system will provide valuable information on wind conditions for sailors, windsurfers, kite-surfers and other boaters in the Christchurch Bay area. The club is situated at the entrance to Christchurch harbour in Dorset.

The wind system uses a WindSonic sensor - a reliable, no maintenance ultrasonic anemometer, with no moving parts, to measure wind speed and direction. A WS-15A display provides instantaneous read-out in the club house, while the internet link displays live and historic min, max and average data every 10 minutes.

This live wind data increases the coverage across the Western Solent and Dorset coastline. R-P-R has other systems installed at Lymington, Hurst Castle and Portland Harbour where the 2012 Olympic Sailing Regatta will be held. Data from all these can be viewed at our website www.weather-file.com.

April 08: The New Kestrel® 3500 Delta T is now available

Kestrel 3500 delta T

Ideal for use by farmers and others involved in crop spraying. This new Kestrel hand-held weather meter provides a useful measure of Delta T.

Delta T is the spread between the wet bulb temperature and the dry bulb temperature (in degrees C). By calculating this value, the Kestrel 3500 delta T Pocket Weather Meter provides a quick guide to determining acceptable spraying conditions. In hot, dry conditions, evaporation can send expensive chemicals uselessly into the air rather than onto the crops.

By also measuring other critical conditions, such as relative humidity and wind speed, the kestrel 3500 delta T helps ensure safe and effective spraying.
